Median wage set to increase in July 2021

Immigration NZ uses the “median wage” to assess job offers in Essential Skills work visa applications and the Skilled Migrant category (points system). It is set to increase from $25.50 per hour to $27.00 in July 2021. There will not be a lot of notice once this goes live.

People holding an employer assisted work visa and paid $25.50 or more an hour but less than $27 per hour should apply now for a new work visa if they want to maximise another three years working in New Zealand.

Anyone who lodged an Expression of Interest (EOI) that is sitting in the Skilled Migrant pool and paid less than $27 per hour should be talking to their employers now about a pay increase. Unless the government eases up on Skilled Migrants many EOIs are likely to fail.
